Many of us will experience arch foot stress as a burning sensation under the long arch of our foot. The causes of that irritation can be from running, walking on hard surfaces, In addition, if you are on your feet all day you will likely experience some stain in your arches. The other contributing factor is shoes that do not provide adequate support to the foot and ankle, as a whole.

The other causes of arch foot pain are of a medical condition. They are plantar fasciitis which is the straining of the ligament that provides support to the arch. The other is tarsal tunnel syndrome which is a pinched nerve at the ankle. This pinching sends pain towards the arch location of the foot.

You can also get arch foot pain from a flat foot or a pronated foot. The latter two conditions are caused by structural imbalances in the feet. You can also get arch foot pain from osteoarthritis. This is arthritis in the bones and joints in the midfoot region. This osteoarthritis is what causes arch foot pain.

Treating Arch Foot Pain

This is a common foot condition that you can treat easily. If you suffer from arch strain avoid high-heeled shoes whenever possible. Try to choose footwear with a reasonable heel, soft leather uppers, shock-absorbing soles, and removable foot insoles. When the arch foot strain is pronation related (flat feet), an orthotic designed with a medial heel post and proper arch support is recommended. This type of orthotic will control over-pronation, support the arch and provide the necessary relief.

There are some basic ways that you can treat it. The use of ice packs at the beginning of the pain will reduce the amount of swelling that has been caused following strenuous activities. Later on, anti-inflammatory gels and heat applications may be used. You should avoid any activities that will put a strain on the arch foot muscles. Therefore if your work necessitates that you should be standing on your feet all day, then you should see if you can do your work seated.

Modify Your Physical Activities

Activities, like running and walking, should be modified. You might want to consider taking up other activities like swimming or cycling until your discomfort goes away. The wearing of supportive shoes is also ideal in the treatment of arch foot strain
